About the work

My most recent work makes reference to mass media and advertising as a reflection of the contemporary cultural landscape.
In a series of bogus film posters, books and LP covers, I present the viewer with a tangle of clues to decipher. This detective work inevitably leads back to my individual point in history. Properly reassembled as a collection of homages, the clues reveal the artists, writers, musicians and film-makers whose work has helped shape my views and made me the cultural product I am.
The process begins with images printed or drawn on an acetate sheet. I project these using an OHP and paint directly onto canvas using acrylics and emulsions for their fast-drying properties.
The canvases are constructed with a square edge to be exhibited without frames, and have a depth of 4–5 cms.
A parallel series of constructions mixes similar sources in freer and more flexible arrangements.
